I like to define success from my WHY. My why is determined by goal setting. We need a reminder of our goals so we know what success looks like. If you are like me you have defined your goals by your priorities, by what is important to you, there are a number of sources you can use, I like Dream lining by Tim Ferris and there are a number of great available goal setting tools online.
Once we establish our goals, we need to measure our performance towards our goals, like the old management line:
If you can't measure it you can't manage it
If we use the example of a client that is trying to lose weight, we can easily put them on the scales, see where they are currently and where they want to get to, their goal number and we ask them why they want to achieve this. From here we simply focus on an improved eating plan and get them burning more calories and we put them on the road to success. We measure them at set times, encourage them on their progress and voilà! They achieve their goals.
So what does you success look like? We need to define it, into manageable, workable daily tasks that we complete to get us towards our goal. If it is as simple as a financial goal, what is the number? Start with your end figure, break it down into monthly, weekly or daily figures. What tasks do you need to do daily to get daily goal figure. In most instances the daily figure is not that scary and you have potentially done it before. Now it is about execution and repetition towards this goal.
Come to each day with a clear agenda of what you need to do today to be successful. Speak to that business, call that client, make contact with that prospect and take action. The more you do it the less daunting it will become.
Feel free to post what your daily success looks like in the comments.
